"Siafu is an extremely popular ska band based out of Gaithersburg, Maryland. They incorporate innovative songwriting and catchy rhythms to create a sound that is unique to their local music scene. Many of the band members either attend or have attended Gaithersburg High School, where the band has a very large following. Siafu notably won a competition to fill one of the spots in Ska Weekend 2007, which took place on August 25th in Knoxville, Tennessee.Siafu is: Nick Thrasher - Drums, Lukas Martinson - Guitar, Austin Litz - Tenor Sax, Robbie Jones - Bass, Eric Karbeling - Trumpet, Leo Vieira - Trumpet. According to their myspace page, Pat Hawbecker recently left the band to attend college at Ohio State. No word has been said on who will take over at keyboard yet."
Hailing from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Siafu combine a very catchy ska punk sound with some awesome as fuck jazz sections which give it a real jazz feel to their music. Some songs are just straight up instrumental, which I LOVE. Just imagine One Cool Guy with more brass when listening to Siafu. This album will have your head bobbing and your toe tapping because of how catchy it is! It just makes me want to get up and dance. This is a prime of example of what good ska punk actually is.
