Impetuous Ritual - Relentless Execution Of Ceremonial Excrescence (2009)

From last.fm:

"Death metal from Brisbane, Australia, ex - Internecine Excoriation. Shares members of Portal. The band is heavily influence by diSEMBOWELMENT, Incantation and Immolation. http://www.myspace.com/impetuousritual http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3540295292"

Usually, when you think of Australia the LAST thing to come to mind is good music but as of right now I stand corrected. If you're familiar with Portal you're going to LOVE Impetuous Ritual. When I played this first track I thought to myself "Man, is this fucking awesome or what?!?" The blast beats were just going off fucking everywhere. The distortion... man, THAT DISTORTION! I can't believe I'm hearing this. I've never heard of distortion set so fucking low before. Jesus christ is this pounding a nail in my head or what. Most of this album is clearly about instrumental work. The blast beats, the crazy fucking Immolation-esque riffs, and just raw, dirty fucking sound. Vocal wise, I'd say it's a mix between Incantation and Portal. There's shrieking to growling and growling to shrieking in every which way. I can't see how Cho fucked up a bunch of people at Virgina Tech listening to shitty Collective Soul when he could of been listening to Impetuous Ritual!! Well, not really since it wasn't out then but still. What a punishing release by a phenomenal band comprised of some of today's best metal musicians. Portal fans and fans of metal in general should welcome and embrace this album into library as it'll put everything else to shame.

  1. Yeah, sounds great, like a mix between Portal (like you already said) and Blut Aus Nort (one of the best french bands ever created, excepted for their two early releases which are not bad, but not inventives at all)

  2. Ah, you're right! I totally forgot about Blut Aus Nord. Wow, I haven't listen to them in ages!! It does have a bit of an industrial tinge to it and a bit avant-garde to say the least. Some of the best BM bands come from France. All those experimental black metal bands combining influences like sludge and post-hardcore such as Celeste, Amenra, and Reka.

If you have the opportunity to see Celeste in live, don't ask yourself if want or not : you must :)
