"Steak Number Eight is a post-hardcore/sludge band formed in Wevelgem, Belgium in 2005. Their current line-up consists of vocalist/guitarist Brent Vanneste, guitarist Cis Deman bassist Jesse Surmont, and Joris Casier on drums. They have two full length albums running: When The Candle Dies Out(2008) and All Is Chaos(2011), which is produced by Matt Bayles (Isis, Neurosis,…).Heavily influenced - in a good way - by acts like Neurosis and the Neurot back-catalogue in its entirety is this young Belgian Rock Quartet. Became famous when winning Humo’s Rock Rally, a Belgian competition who made other artists like dEUS, Balthazar, Goose… famous. Despite their young age (14-16 years old back then), their music sounds dark and heavy."
I've been following this release for some time now and I'm glad to have finally gotten my hands on it! For some reason it's tagged as All In Chaos even though it's All Is Chaos so be sure to change that on your media player! But anyways, Steak Number Eight are notoriously known for having started with the members were ONLY around 14-16!!!! How remarkable is that?? Seriously, these guys have SUCH a future ahead of themselves!! I think SN8 is best described atmsopheric sludge/post-rock with a bit of a post-hardcore side to it. The builds up aren't at phenomenal as I'd like them but they focus a lot more on the vocals and post-hardcoreish aspect of their music. I saw someone refer to them as "ambient cough syrup" and yeah, I could agree with that statement a bit. The first track made me laugh because of the ever-so-present of the word "dick". Yes, I'm immature. I KNOW! FUCK YOU. My favorite track on this album was without a doubt Track Into The Sky. The wonderful build up followed by outro of orchestral hums really put me into a chill mood. I just think it's cool to really see this band evolve from what they were to what they are now. This band is most comparable to stuff such as Disappearer, The Black Heart Rebellion, and Tephra. Give these Belgium bad boys a listen!

Sorry folks. The link is out there. Just gotta find it for yourself. :/

ReplyDeleteMaybe you could also recommend "When The Candle Dies Out". I rather prefer that than "All Is Chaos" (not that it's worthless, but their debut was sludgier) :P
I would toss it up but I don't want to run the risk of it happening yet again. I heard Steak Number Eight are pretty popular and rather mainstream over in Belgium so it's only a matter of time before that upload gets seized too. But yeah, if you're reading this also check out When The Candle Dies Out. Far superior to this album.
