Sons of Tonatiuh - Self Titled (2010)

From last.fm:

"Sons of Tonatiuh is a Crust/Sludge band from Atlanta GA. The band was formed in the year 2008 and is made up of members from bands like Leechmilk, Fell A Victim, and Noble Rust. In the two years the band has been together they have pumped out three releases. One single, a demo, and finally in the year 2010 a full length self titled album. The band is currently doing a lot of live shows/touring and working hard.More info can be found at the bands Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/sonsoftonatiuh"

was reading up a bit on the band and was noticing that it got very high ratings throughout different reviews and I had to give this a listen. Sons Of Tonatiuh aren't your typical doom metal band. Sure, their main focus may be that but they incorporate a lot of heavy sludge riffs and very crust-like vocals. The overall feeling for this album is a heavy one played in a dark downtempo that has your occasionally solo or two. I wouldn't necessarily call this band crust because they don't display much of the attributes besides the vocals but if you know anything about sludge it takes a lot of hints from crust. What's surprising about SOT is that one track maybe be very slow throughout the song and eventually the gutiarist just rips into a heavy as fuck riff that just melts your face away  Be prepared when listening to this album because your mind will be blown.

Beyond Decay - Dropping The Bomb (2008)

From last.fm:

"Busting outta tha ghettos of Orangeville… Beyond Decay was formed around late April of 2006, where former hardcore punk band, The Reputed, decided to expand on their musical foundations (in the least unoriginal sense). They’re known to have their own specific style, with a mix of ska/reggae/punk, and a little taste of some trip hop and hardcore.Although Beyond Decay’s opinions aren’t universal and vary throughout many of their songs, concerns of homophobia in society, racism, the capitalist system, hidden corporate agenda’s, mass media, mass consumption, change, and ignorance, are some of the topics their music touches on. Lyrics differ from politically charged songs to some positive messages found in the reggae/dub songs such as, “Until the day the world unites, we will never rest.”Beyond Decay has proven time and time again, that they are a force to be reckoned with in the ska-punk scene. The release of their first EP “Buds Not Bombs” had a great success, selling the first 100 copies at their CD Release show. With a full length on the horizon, Beyond Decay shows no signs of slowing down. So keep yer eyes and yer ears open, because Beyond Decay is currently busy recording their full length album, releasing it in September/August 2007 and a split with Corporation due out July 6th."

I fell in love with Beyond Decay back in the summer when I was out on my hopeless journey to find a job. I had really gotten into the whole crack rock steady thing and decided to pick up some Beyond Decay. When I first listened to them they kind of skimmed over my mind but the second time around the track Sick Of It All caught my ears and I listened to it non stop the new few days. What I love about Beyond Decay is the fact that they have incorporate a lot of reggae and dub into their usual skacore, unlike most CRS bands. The album's main focus is targeting the Bush administration and the downfall of the government. Another thing I love about this album is that it displays a lot of rapping which in some cases makes this album a lot more desirable. If you're looking for something similar to B-squad or Night Gaunts this would be your safest bet.

Righteous Pigs - Live And Learn & Stress Related (1999)

From last.fm:

"Righteous Pigs were a grindcore / death metal band who were formed in 1987 in Las Vegas, USA. They recorded two albums; Live and Learn (1989) and Stress Related (1990), but split up following the release of the latter album when guitarist Mitch Harris left to join Napalm Death."

I can't really remember how to I was introduced to Righteous Pigs but when I first had them I HAD to have them. As you have read above, the guitarist Mitch Harris left Righteous Pigs to join Napalm Death and left some of his notoriety behind in this band. The guitar playing is fast, heavy, and is backed by perfectly timed blast beats. The devastating vocals are what really speak to me. I mean sure, the awesome as fuck thrashy crossover guitar playing is bad ass but those growls are really something out. Not to mention the lyrics are quite clear and touch topics such as drugs, dying, stress, extinction, and just anything and everything that goes against the normals of society hitting topics such as Charles Manson. This album (or should I say compilation) is just really really heavy and shouldn't be listened to by the weak hearted. Great growling grindcore vocals that go along with dark lyrics with death metal-esque instrumentals. What more could anyone ask for?

Burn Down Rome - Devotion (2008)

From last.fm:

"Burn Down Rome was a 4 piece band from London playing experimental hardcore. They consisted of Eddy (Bass), Jacob (Vocals), Max (Guitar) and Jonny (Drums). They released their debut album Devotion on 15th September 2008 through Visible Noise."

I definitely wouldn't call them hardcore but I sure as hell would call them experimental. It's hard to put a finger on what is and what isn't post-hardcore but there are some parts to this band that definitely sound like it. Hell, I had to even ask around a few people as to what I should label this band. But anyways, Burn Down Rome combine many array of influences such as post-rock, hardcore, screamo, post-hardcore and metalcore. On their first EP, they even threw in a few breakdowns that were about 20 seconds and pretty bad ass sounding.  Devotion has a really emotional draw to it as soon as the first sets in and begins to reel your heart in like a fish on a line. The feel to this album overall is a powerful one. It's hard but yet hits a soft spot at the same time. A must have album for screamo fans.

November Coming Fire - Dungeness (2006)

From last.fm:

"November Coming Fire emerged out of the Canterbury Hardcore scene in Kent, England, in 2001 and quickly became one of the most respected bands of the scene through their intense live shows and debut MCD Black Ballads (released 2003).The MCD itself didn’t do anything particularly original, but it did show to those who listened how passionate and dedicated November Coming Fire are as a band, and the hard work they put into the album and touring earnt them support slots with bands such as Converge, Terror and Give Up the Ghost."

Take the raw energy of Ceremony, throw in some progressive metal sounding metalcore riffs like Converge, and give it a sludge undertone by throwing in some Hang The Bastard and this is essentially November Coming Fire. As lame as the name sounds, the band definitely goes above and beyond in terms of making a great addition to the hardcore/metalcore scene. Just as any metalcore band in their line of work, November Coming Fire uses very little emphasis on breakdowns and more on having real progressive riffs followed by sludge breakdowns and having a very chaotic hardcore/mathcore feel to it. I'm not a fan of anything mathy at all so if this is getting praise from me you know it's gotta be good. Seeing the bands they tour with and the recognition they're getting, you know they're the real deal. If you're looking for some sick progressive metalcore this satisfy your needs.

Nux Vomica - Asleep In The Ashes (2009)

 From last.fm:

"An Epic Punk/metal crust band from Baltimore, Maryland that began in late 2003. They later relocated to Portland, Oregon. Their 7”ep “The Uninspired” is available from www.firestarterrecords.com. Their LP/CD “A Civilized World” is out now and available from Aborted Society Records - www.abortedsociety.com. They are also on the compilation Baltimore’s Dirt and Grime released by Dysphoria Distro www.dysphoriadistro.com.In 2009 the band released their 2xLP/CD, “Asleep in the Ashes” on Aborted Society Records."

Nux Vomica are without a doubt my FAVORITE neocrust band. The thing I wouldn't really call them neocrust. They have a lot of sludgey overtone but yet they don't at the same time. If you're familiar with the band Wake Up On Fire, the remaining members of that band went on to form Nux Vomica so you know there is some serious shit going down. This album is by far their must melodic than all their other ones. They have a few more albums that are a lot more noticed but this one is straight to their melodic neocrust roots. There's just something about Nux Vomica that makes them my favorite. Is it the fact that they're my first melodic crust experience or the fact that they're just fucking awesome? In any case, do yourself a favor and pick this up today. Oh and this youtube video isn't an exact representation of their album seeing as how I couldn't find from Asleep In The Ashes but this will suffice. Enjoy!

Dystopia - Human = Garbage (1994)

From last.fm:

"Dystopia was a sludge band from CA, USA. The band formed in Orange County, California in 1991, and were popular in both the heavy metal and crust punk scenes, due in large part to their bleak misanthropic imagery. Their lyrics often dealt with human emotion and sociopolitical issues such as environmentalism, racial equality, animal rights, and veganism.
Dystopia is a soundtrack for the world as we know it today. Their sound embodies all of the horrors, pain, agony and desperation of modern day society. They disbanded in 2008, after releasing their third album."

I threw up a later album from Dystopia on my blog called The Aftermath... and I'm pleased to throw up their other critically acclaimed album Human = Garbage. I kind of underminded this album mainly because The Aftermath... had a few of my favorite Dystopia tracks on it but after listening to this album a few times this night I can really sense in the hatred that this band displays. In their track Hands That Molds, a very misantropic feel sets over as the lyrics kick in...

Hands that kill mold illusions of peace
their fucked up pseudo security
destroy to birth technology
to quick the killing of you and me and him and her blind
us humans thinking we are so smart creating challenges

...and so on. If you're really curious for how the song ends you'll have to pick this album for yourself. If you love anything crust and sludge, you need to get this fucking album. It's mind blowing and without a doubt holds the same bar to their later works.

Siafu - Good Vibes (2007)

From last.fm

"Siafu is an extremely popular ska band based out of Gaithersburg, Maryland. They incorporate innovative songwriting and catchy rhythms to create a sound that is unique to their local music scene. Many of the band members either attend or have attended Gaithersburg High School, where the band has a very large following. Siafu notably won a competition to fill one of the spots in Ska Weekend 2007, which took place on August 25th in Knoxville, Tennessee.Siafu is: Nick Thrasher - Drums, Lukas Martinson - Guitar, Austin Litz - Tenor Sax, Robbie Jones - Bass, Eric Karbeling - Trumpet, Leo Vieira - Trumpet. According to their myspace page, Pat Hawbecker recently left the band to attend college at Ohio State. No word has been said on who will take over at keyboard yet."

Hailing from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Siafu combine a very catchy ska punk sound with some awesome as fuck jazz sections which give it a real jazz feel to their music. Some songs are just straight up instrumental, which I LOVE. Just imagine One Cool Guy with more brass when listening to Siafu. This album will have your head bobbing and your toe tapping because of how catchy it is! It just makes me want to get up and dance. This is a prime of example of what good ska punk actually is. Check it.

Fat Freddys Drop - Based on a True Story (2005)

From last.fm:

"Fat Freddy’s Drop is a 7 piece live Dub/Reggae band from Wellington, New Zealand. Founded in 2001, the current lineup consists of DJ Fitchie, Joe Dukie, Toby Chang, HoPepa, Chopper Reedz, Jetlag Johnson, and Dobie Blaze. The name “Fat Freddy’s Drop” is a reference to a piece of blotter art that was circulating in the NZ dance scene in the late 90’s.Fat Freddy’s Drop have now released their second major studio album, Dr Boondigga & The Big BW - shipping GOLD on the first day of release on 26th May 2009. Featuring Art & Design by Otis Frizzell, the album features nine fresh phat tracks that span soul, dub, reggae, techno, blues flavors."

Just an all out blend of reggae, dub, jazz, and soul, Fat Freddy's Drop brings a once in a life time listening experience to your home. If there was an accurate description for the word "chill", this would be it. Just all out jamming and instrumental at times, it really sets the mood for something very calm and soothing. The brass sections give light to the sounds making it very up beat at times meanwhile the saxaphone instrumentals almost make you feel like you're listening to Coltrane. I don't know whether to bob my head, clap, or snap my fingers. Either way, this album is great and just chilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

Carcomedhi - Etilo-Eficacia (2010)

So I couldn't find a description ANYWHERE for this band but this will have to suffice. Carcomedhi are a Spanish neocrust/screamo band fronted by a female vocalist. Their raw energy and melodic riffs really pack a power punch to their crusty style. I'm not a big fan of mathy sounding music but I think Carcomedhi do an excellent just combining it with a crusty undertone followed by screamo vocals. There aren't many neocrust bands with female vocalists so be sure to add this to your collection. Enjoy!

Contagium - Archaic (2010)

From last.fm:

"Crust from the East coast of Canada. First show in May 2008. Canadian tour September-October 2008, North American tour May-June 2009, US tour December 2009. 7” EP on Black Raven Records 2009, 12” LP out on The Total End Records Spring 2010. Adam - artwork, guitar and vocals. Ben - drums and vocals. Rob - bass and vocals."

As long as I can remember being a crust fan I have always enjoyed Contagium. Their combination of crust as fuck growled lyrics and metallic riffs really make for an awesome combination. The word "stenchcore" is best associated with them. The feeling Contagium delivers is a very apocalyptic one with very nihilistic lyrics that make for an overall chilling feel when listening to this album. If you're looking for some all out dirty, crusty crust then this is the band to listen to. Check this one out if you're a fan of stuff like Instinct of Survival, Nuclear Death Terror, Misantropicm and Morne.

Jerkoff Jackoff Frigface - Life Is A Cowboy Hat

So I couldn't find a description on these guys but here goes nothing! Jerkoff Jackoff Frigface are an acoustic folk punk/alt-country who sing about the Southern life touching subjects as their shotgun, their boots, living in Texas, and getting your heart broken with a straight up DIY vibe to it. What I love about this band is the that they're very comedic and have learned to laugh at each themselves. The overall mood this band sets is a very happy one and will get you to appreciate the Southern culture a lot more. If you're feeling down and need something to cheer you up this will be the album to get!

Agathocles - Mincer (2006)

From last.fm:

"Agathocles is a Legendary grindcore band from Belgium, who describe their music as “mincecore”. The band started in 1985, and has gone through many lineup changes, but is still going strong today. They have gained an underground cult following through their frequent album releases (including dozens of split 7“‘s, ep 7“‘s, and numerous other full length cd’s/LP’s and compilations). They released new album “Grind Is Protest” in 2008!"

For one thing, if you listen to grindcore and you don't know who Agathocles is, you don't know SHIT about grindcore. Seriously though, Agathocles are the kings of the mincecore scene, way of playing newer grindcore in an old school style taking influences from bands such as Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, and Repulsion. This album has 22 tracks of shredding. Agathocles really take grindcore to a next level with their wicked riffs, fast as fuck drums, and just overall devastating presence. Take a hint from me and get one download one of my favorite grindcore bands. You seriously can't go wrong with this album. Oh and more on mincecore can be found here. Enjoy!

Słowa We Krwi - Teraz (2004)

From last.fm:

"Anarchopunkowa group of Bialystok DeCentrum associated with squat.Words In Blood, there between 7 lat. Muzyka played by the band is a skillful combination of speed, not devoid of melodic hardcore punk party with powerful female vocals. Important role in the work of Words In Blood plays an uncompromising message. Their lyrics criticizing capitalism, the cult of consumption, the passivity of the majority of the population and encourage the active transformation of the surrounding reality. In early 2004, Poison released on cassette wave first material Words In Blood, entitled "Now." This release was very well received, like many band concerts throughout the country. Passing from the pulsating buzz of fast, furious punk toast to the atmospheric, guitar playing."

Another great anarcho-punk crust band hailing from the Poland. The vocalist's voice really digs into your membrane by having such an unforgettable voice and by shouting all the vocals. The overall style is relatively fast and in some cases melodic. Similar to bands like DELICJE, Prawo Do Jazdy, and Silna Wola.  I'm going to continue digging deeper into the Polish scene looking for more anarcho-punk bands so stay tuned for more!

The Jolly Boys - Great Expectation (2010)

From last.fm:

"A mento quartet from Port Antonio, Jamaica, formed 1955. They perform with bongos, banjo, rhumba box & kalimba / finger-piano. In the 50s, they were popular at The Trident Hotel & parties for ‘the rich’n’famous’, e.g. at Errol Flynn’s residence. In the late 80s, interest was renewed, when Jules Shear heard them playing at the Trident - he returned later & produced Pop ‘N’ Mento & other albums. A new album - Great Expectation - is slated for release, late 2010. Official site: Furious.com/perfect/JollyBoys.html"

The Jolly Boys have been in the music industry for over 50 years and they're still cranking out music like there's no tomorrow! They play a unique Jamacian style of music called mento. Here is a summary of what mento is.

"Mento is a style of Jamaican folk music that predates and has greatly influenced ska and reggae music. Mento typically features acoustic instruments, such as acoustic guitar, banjo, hand drums, and the rhumba box — a large mbira in the shape of a box that can be sat on while played. The rhumba box carries the bass part of the music.

Mento is often confused with calypso, a musical form from Trinidad and Tobago. Although the two share many similarities, they are separate and distinct musical forms. In part, the differences stem from the differing colonial histories of the two West Indian Islands, as Jamaican music lacks the Spanish influences found in other Caribbean musical styles." - taken from here.

The album Great Expectation draws a lot of focus from calypso, mento, and reggae influences and incorporates such instruments as a rhumba box, banjos, and hand drums. What I love about this album the most is the fact that it's a cover album; meaning to say every song as has been somewhat popular and done by bigger acts. It includes such songs as Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash), Riders On The Storm (The Doors), Blue Monday (New Order) and You Can't Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones). The Jamacian sound really adds to and gives new meaning to these songs and will have you replaying this album for hours. Get yourself cultured today!

Diskelmä - Fun Is Over (2009)

From last.fm:

"Diskelmä is a Finnish hardcore punk band, that was formed in the spring of 2005."

Straight up d-beat that's in your face! Really brings out the finer side of Finnish music and the crust scene over there. The guitar solos are technical as fuck, the vocals are superb, lyrics are very misantropic dealing with being anti-social, being a loser, and nihilism. Overall, this is a great d-beat album to add to your collection. They are without a doubt d-beat warriors. Check it.

Drown In Blood - Blood Red Path (2005)

From last.fm:

"Drown in blood was a band from Hamburg, Germany. Music they created was heavily influenced by Bolt Thrower old Swedish death metal and stench core bands like Deviated Instinct. Also the band was formed by members of Instinct of survival, so some similarities can be found between those bands. Specially on the crust side of things. They have released an LP called Blood Red Path on label called Institut Für Mentale Hygiene and split around 2007. "

Drown In Blood are one of those bands that you just have to consider whether or not they're crusties or guys who just love to play old school death metal. Either way, this shit is fucking awesome. Their gritty, dirty riffs are beautiful mastered only to be backed up by some insane vocals and that give it a real crust feel. This album will have you trembling in your boots for hours as you intake the raw power that is Drown In Blood. The blast beats are inserted correctly and make for an overall punishing sound. Fans of both metallic sounding crust and death metal should consider this album because I'll knock you off your feet.

Р.Г.П.О. - 2oi! (2009)

From last.fm:

"P.R.N.O. - Is a band that noone understands or knows …But We Love The Sound"

One poppy Russian skacore/crack rock steady band that really brings out the youth in you!! Just your run of the mill three chord punk band with a ska hooks with a bit of an Oi sound to it! This album will have you bobbing your head to all the catchy riffs. I had quite the hassle getting my hands on this album to get it while you can!

Church Of Misery - Houses Of The Unholy (2009)

From last.fm:

"Church of Misery (チャーチ・オブ・ミザリ) is a japanese doom metal band with a specific extra-groovy sound that is often described as “stoner doom” but the band tends to snub this term saying “We hate trend. We hate corporate attitude. We hate the word ‘stoner’. Death to false stoners!! Let there be DOOM!!” (citation from the Master of Brutality album cover artwork notes).Band was formed in 1996 in Tokyo by bassist Tatsu Mikami (ex-Salem) and guitarist Tomohiro Nishimura, line-up was completed with singer Nobukazu Chow and drummer Hideki Shimizu. Band’s raw and groovy style of doom metal rooted in 70s heavy rock with psychedelic feel and their notable lyrics mostly based on the famous serial killers’ characters soon founded out the way into the hearts of the underground metal fans all over the world even though the band didn’t play anywhere outside Japan until 2005. Band recorded first album entitled “Volume 1” at their live performance in Tokyo in 1996 for the DOOM RECORDS planning to release it in 1997 but the record company cancelled it fooling people who pre-ordered this album, and then released it as a rare unofficial bootleg. Next 1998 year three songs by Church Of Misery appeared on “Doomsday Recitation” compilation, soon this was followed by “Born Too Late” - the split record with canadian bands HEAVY which included Saint Vitus’ War Is Our Destiny song cover version."

All hail the second coming of fucking BLACK SABBATH!!!!!!!! ... but Japanese style! Goddamn who can't get enough of Church Of Misery?!?!?! One of the few doom metal/stoner metal bands out there that pack a punch and really get down to how the style of music should sound. Playing in the vein of Black Sabbath are hard shoes to fit in but this band executes it perfectly. Seriously, you call yourself a Sabbath fan and you never listened to Church Of Misery? You don't know SHIT about doom metal and it's predecessors. Their long, drawn-out, bluesy riffs and overall psychedelic feel to their music really seperates CoM from all other doom/stoner bands. Play this one for your dad and he'll start reminiscing for old days all the times he tripped on acid. I know every band out there tries to imitate the early proto-doom bands but Church Of Misery are the best fucking band out there to this date to do it. I don't care about your Electric Wizard or Acid King or Boris. THIS IS THE ALBUM TO GET!

Leper - End Progress (2009)

From last.fm:

"Leper is a Canadian anarchist ska-crust band on Creepcore Records who often cover topics such as the vagrant life, the KKK, and homelessness all in a unique style blending oppressively slow reggae grooves with apocalytpic, world’s end visions and dark sonic brutality. Their myspace: www.myspace.com/lepercreepcore"

Back for popular demand, here is................................ LEPER! No, no really requested this or whatever but their other album I uploaded, Embarrassed To Be Human, has gotten a lot of hits so I decided to throw their more acclaimed album up here. For those of you who don't know, Leper has a very unique sound to them. They play a very blackened form of crust who incorporate ska hooks. As lame as this sounds it's really unique and they do hell of a good job at it too. Their lyrics tend to focus on anarchist views targeting such things as consumerism, capitalism, racism, and animal liberation. I can't remember it off the top of my head but one of their song even dictates being an animal going through the slaughter process. Listening to that track makes me feel good that I don't participate in the supporting in the cold meat industry. In my personal opinion, I enjoyed Embarrassed To Be Human a lot more than End Progress just because there was a shit ton of more material on that album but a lot of people will agree this is the better album. Leper fans should have this album by now and if you don't well here it is! Enjoy. :3

Errör - La Condena Merecida (2006)

From last.fm:

"Neocrust band from Spain!http://www.myspace.com/errormallorca"

Spainish neocrust has never failed me yet! Errör bring a very heavy, thrashy as all fuck sound to neocrust and pack hell of a punch. Having two male vocalists really makes for quite the devastating combination especially with their low growl that will have your head banging for hours. Fans of Blunt, Masakari, and Cwill will absolutely love this album!

No Cash - Run Your Pockets (2003)

From last.fm:

"No Cash were a political riot ska-core band that burst into the late nineties scene with cutting riffs and lyrics that spoke of injustice and hate across the globe. Their songs are anthems to many revolutionary and impoverished teenagers everywhere and often compared to Leftover Crack, Choking Victim and INDK .No Cash Has sold over 1,000 copies of their only album and are continuing to gain popularity. As of early 2005, they have broken up.Brief history:No Cash was founded in Nazareth, PA. They recorded a split CD with New York based band Team Spider. Their debut solo album, Run Your Pockets, sold well. Due to differences within the band, they broke up in 2005. Their music continues to sell today and No Cash has developed a devoted group of fans . They have said a reunion show is impossible. None the less, their music will continue to speak volumes to teenagers living in hostile environments."

For those of you who are going to dismiss this album mainly because it's ska or crack rock steady related PLEASE DON'T! I've put off uploading this album to this blog for a long time now but I've been listening to it a lot and it's completely changed my life so I feel a need to put it up. No Cash's Run Your Pocket is their first and last full length album but it's all you need from them. They deliver clean as fuck three chord riffs, sample the Goonies, and can relate to personal matters. I remember the first time listening to Knowledge Is Power a few years. I was failing in school and I didn't know what to do. It felt like everything was falling beneath my feet and I couldn't do anything about it. Something needed to change and this song changed me. "Discipline, conformity, walk in single file down a dead end street, if this isn't taking me where I need to be, FUCK EDUCATION, at least my mind is free" and thus I had freed myself from the hell I was in. Another song that spoke to me was Homelife Is A Drag because at the time I was in a very bad situation at home and there wasn't really a way for me to leave but this song pulled me through. As lame as this sounds I'm so thankful for No Cash because they have made me do a complete 360 in life and really opened up my eyes. I'm forever indebted to them and this will always be my favorite album of all time and one of the most influential bands on my music taste to date.

Revolting - The Terror Threshold (2010)

 From last.fm:

"REVOLTING is the new band from Rogga Johansson(Paganizer, Ribspreader) which is dedicated to the absolute worship of late 80’s Death Metal (Carnage, Grave) and HORROR/GORE films from the 1980’s! With today’s modern horror sucking beyond redemption and death metal being plagued by rap, emo, and fake boring “brutality”, Rogga felt it was time to do a truly PURE and ugly, rotting, putrid Death Metal band for the love of it and to get back to the basics of what all of this madness is about anyway!Teaming up with Razorback Records, the label known for their obsession with oldschool metal and horror, the name REVOLTING was chosen by Billy “Grossera” Nocera to reflect the gross, nasty, gory, and insane horror films from the 80’s such as STREET TRASH, THE BLOB, REDNECK ZOMBIES, and other mutant gross-out fests that make life worth living! The spirit of real Death Metal is alive and well, and REVOLTING is looking to keep the gory tradition going with the release of their debut album, “DREADFUL PLEASURES”, sometime in 2008!Beware…the Revolter has awakened from its decades long slumber beneath the crypt…and it’s NOT happy at all with what death metal and horror has become! It’s hungry, and ready to begin its grotesque assault on your senses and show the underground what REAL Death Metal is SUPPOSED to be about!"

I'm fairly new to the whole death metal scene so excuse me in advance if I say anything that may sound ignorant. Revolting are a new school death metal band playing that 80's old school style. Generally speaking about death metal, I tend to find most bands very boring and overdone in a sense of trying to copy off another band but Revolting are a lot more than that. They take a lot of inspiration from older death metal bands and give it a real thrashy, listenable sound to it. Revolting perfectly times their blast beasts correctly, great growls, gory lyrics, provide a great instrumental track half way through the album, and overall make for quite the listening experience. If you're looking for something original when it comes to death metal this is the way to go. Pick this up today!

Move over Misfits and Cramps, we've got new horror punks in town and unlike you idiots, these guys know how to fucking SHRED! Dr AIDS bring a very humorous sound to the crust scene with their dark, hatred-filled lyrics about very basic things such as ice cream, trannys, and pedophiles entitled "NECROQUEGCUNTCORE".  Their way of playing is very heavy in a sense of being metallic as fuck but also have a dominant d-beat section. They're too heavy to be called punk and too light to be called metal so they're just in the between looking to show both scenes what's up. What I love most about Dr AIDS is the that you can just tell that they have fun doing what they do and aren't afraid to speak their mind. Nothing beats a bunch of crazy drunk guys sitting around writing some hilarious tunes. Take some lessons from Dr AIDS and stay away from the Ice Cream man!

Betercöre - Youth Crust Discography!! (2003)

From last.fm:

"Betercore existed as a youthcrustcore band, who started in Amsterdam, from 1997 until the winter of 2003.Betercore-core:Reinco Minogue: VocalsBeterkid: GuitarsWouter: BassguitarGeert-Jan: Guitars/DrumsBetercore-corecrew:Billi: Vocals (2000-2003)Sanne: Vocals (2003-2004)Rogier: Drums (2001)John: Drums (1998-2000)"

Without a doubt one of my favorite powerviolence bands, Betercore bring a very innovative way to play powerviolence with a cutting edge crust as fuck style. The chord progressions are random enough to be deemed powerviolence (not to mention their ways of poking fun of the media and TV shows, subcultures, and leftist ideas) and the vocals are sometimes growled, similar to crust and just thrashy as hell. I also love the very lo-fi sounding of their releases. There's just something about Betercore that is different from most powerviolence bands. Maybe it's because they're from Amsterdam? Who knows. If you're looking for some original material pick this discography up today!

Just all out balls to the wall powerviolence band with very heavily distorted guitars and have a very Infest-esque way of playing. Stemming from a lot of influences, this band knows how to shred. Check it.

Skarp - Requiem (2005)

From last.fm:

"Seattle’s SKARP goes straight for the throat with no mercy. Their pitiless core is as apt to plod as it is to shred but they sure seem more at home when they are fucking out the jams. SKARP seems to be an excellent (maybe even archetypal) example of extreme music after 80s and 90s crust was ingested by grind and power violence and regurgitated for a new millennium. Lyrically the band backs up their louder-than-hell sound with classic rants against a multitude of “isms” and biases. This is a first class example of the extremities of the extreme."

Straight from Seattle, this band really knows how to lay it down with some fucking awesome riffs and the tracks aren't all 50 seconds of growls and pig squeals like you're typical grindcore. One of the greatest crustgrind albums put out to date, Skarp bring a very dark and damp way of playing to both crust and grindcore scenes. The vocalist of Skarp has a very profound sound to her that is so hard to describe I can't go into details. The overall feel of this band is just very misantrophic and nihilistic as fuck. Seriously, if you don't have this album you don't know SHIT about crust or grind. Without a doubt, one of the greatest crustgrind albums you will ever listen to. Even if you're not a fan of either or I highly recommend this. I've been a fan of Skarp for a long time now and I promise they won't disappoint or your money back. B)

Guillotine Terror - Kronos (2007)

From last.fm:

"Guillotine Terror is a crust/death metal-band from Tokyo, Japan."

Guillotine Terror has for a long time been one of my favorite stenchcore bands and once you listen to this album you'll see why. Not only do they have a shit ton of material (like 7 well produced albums?) but also really know how to bring the skull-crushing sound to the crust world. Guillotine Terror reminds me of a Japanese version of Hellshock but bring that Burning Spirits hardcore punk from their culture and apply it to their crusty ethics and deliver raw, edgy as fuck music. If you're looking for something crusty, heavy, foreign and just overall loud and in your face, then this album is strictly for you. This is for fans of Confuse, Gauze, Disclone, SDS, etc.
