Fat Freddys Drop - Based on a True Story (2005)

From last.fm:

"Fat Freddy’s Drop is a 7 piece live Dub/Reggae band from Wellington, New Zealand. Founded in 2001, the current lineup consists of DJ Fitchie, Joe Dukie, Toby Chang, HoPepa, Chopper Reedz, Jetlag Johnson, and Dobie Blaze. The name “Fat Freddy’s Drop” is a reference to a piece of blotter art that was circulating in the NZ dance scene in the late 90’s.Fat Freddy’s Drop have now released their second major studio album, Dr Boondigga & The Big BW - shipping GOLD on the first day of release on 26th May 2009. Featuring Art & Design by Otis Frizzell, the album features nine fresh phat tracks that span soul, dub, reggae, techno, blues flavors."

Just an all out blend of reggae, dub, jazz, and soul, Fat Freddy's Drop brings a once in a life time listening experience to your home. If there was an accurate description for the word "chill", this would be it. Just all out jamming and instrumental at times, it really sets the mood for something very calm and soothing. The brass sections give light to the sounds making it very up beat at times meanwhile the saxaphone instrumentals almost make you feel like you're listening to Coltrane. I don't know whether to bob my head, clap, or snap my fingers. Either way, this album is great and just chilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.
