"Monkeypriest is a sludge-doom metal band formed in Sevilla, Spain in 2006."
This album needs no introduction. If you're into sludge and you haven't heard of Monkeypriest you mind as well commit suicide. That's all I've gotta say. But seriously though, this album is fucking F A N T A S T I C! I don't know whether or not it's the name or the feel of what they were trying to accomplish but Monkeypriest constructs this kind of atmospheric that's just hard to explain. It feels as if I'm an adventurer trekking through a forest to find some kind of mystical monkey shrine or some shit. It has this real... adventurous feel to it. The intro starts with an instrumental, a preview if you will, of what it to come in the album. As it gets dives deeper and deeper, the riffs starts getting heavy and vocals are eventually added. With the mood set and the music is right, you'll start to slip into a deep trance lost forever in the realm that is Monkeypriest. Just think of Defending The Tree with a bit more back bone, more tracks, and better production. I think it's safe to say that this band has a lot going in store for them and are most likely comparable to veterans in the genre such as Grief, Buzzov*en, Eyehategod, and hell, even Corrupted with their long, drawn out drone-esque riffs. Monkeypriest are here to stay and in due time, this album along with the rest (hoping they stick together for more) will be classics to come.
They rule! I saw them opening for Orthodox in Bilbao last year. Really good band.
ReplyDeleteSaludos
Never heard of Orthodox but I guess that's another band I will have to be checking out. Thanks. :3
ReplyDeleteNo shit, you really, really need to know about Orthodox. Also they have a new album coming out immnently, so now you have an excuse
ReplyDeleteAwww fuck yeah! I'm seeing drone doom and already interested. I'll be on a look out for when the new album drop and promise to upload it here.
ReplyDeleteThis album is fucking great! And they´re great people too. We (Hipoxia: doom/sludge from Madrid jaja) and Dispain (sludge/punk from Madrid)are going to play with them the next 9th April here in Madrid.
ReplyDeleteInteresting... I've heard of both Hipoxia and Dispain. Now that you mention you're in both of them, I'm definitely going to have a go at them. What what you just described, I think I'm going to really like both of your bands and possibly upload both of them here.
ReplyDeleteI play only in Hipoxia, not in Dispain, but both bands are "brother bands". We play live together, our rehearsals are on the same place, etc. And we`re friends of course. I hope you like both bands!
ReplyDeleteAhhh I see. Well, that's pretty awesome. Tell the guys over at Dispain I said they have some sick stuff and the rest of your band mates as well.
