Brainoil - Self Titled (2003)

From last.fm:

"Southern-sludge influenced Rock and Roll from Oakland, CA. With a wall of raspy down-tuned equipment, Brainoil plays powerful, tight rhythm-section based songs. Brainoil have been jamming since Oct. of 2000, debuting live on March 3rd, 2001.Converging the energy of various styles within the punk hardcore scene, Brainoil personnel have a history of contributions to underground music. Ira has a long past of beating the drums for bands such as Grimple, Ojo Rojo, and Gag Order. In addition to Brainoil, Ira also currently plays in Watch Them Die (http://www.watchthemdie.com). Nate has blasted the guitar for early hardcore crust bands such as Destroy! (http://destroy.net/bands/destroy) from Minneapolis, Silenced (precursor to React) from Connecticut, and Nigel Pepper Cock. He presently pulls double-duty with Stormcrow (http://myspace.com/stormcrowcrust). Greg continues pounding on the bass and screaming away with the experimental bass/drum hardcore-influenced band Lana Dagales, Laudanum (http://myspace.com/laudanum18) and I Will Kill You Fucker (http://www.myspace.com/iwillkillyoufcker).Free tracks and additional information can be found at their official website, www.brainoil.com."

If you want a definition of "sludge" this is the fucking sludgiest, hardest, album you will ever own. Brainoil has that all out gritty sound infused with crusty hardcore punk that just blows away your ears. The instrumentals on this album are fantastic and really want you craving for more sludge. If you don't have this album you don't know SHIT about sludge. Brainoil is defiantly not for the weak-hearted and you should listen to this album at your own cost. Don't say I didn't warn you!
