Sloppy Folk - Experience SA Folk Punk (2010)

From last.fm:

"Sloppy Folk is the collaboration of 2 members from South African punk bands(A.W.O.L. and ContraMundi). When Shaun left Cape town to stay in Jozi he was already craving to find musicians and create some good old folk music and since, Mike’s band A.W.O.L. unfortunately came to a dramatic end, the two guitarist decided to get together and start a new project which is SLOPPY FOLK."

Straight from the heart of Jozi, South Africa comes a long and drawn fight for punk rock and DIY ethics and to my surprise it's continuing to grow each and everyday. I've known Shaun, the second half of Sloppy Folk, for awhile now and he's been letting me in on the scoop of the scene in Africa and how it's progressed and I'm pleased to be putting his band up on my website. Sloppy Folk combines that raw, acoustic folk punk sound with lyrics inspired by Pat The Bunny ranging from topics about DIY to simple things such as making dreams become a reality. Not to mention they do a cover of Crass and Wingnut Dishwasher's Union which are both phenomenal. It's a real emotional experience when listening to this album because it feels as if it was written for every misantropic, nihilistic, apathic person out there who doesn't know what to do with themselves.

  2. DUDE! I was just talking about The Comrades over on another blog. I know the banjo player, Van! He used to live in my old town in York, Pennsylvania. They played Folk The Park in Lancaster/Allentown. A good group of people and Kviza is the bomb. If you enjoy them, check out Two Years Dead under folk punk. They play a lot of crack rock steady inspired folk punk.
