I was reading up a bit on the band and was noticing that it got very high ratings throughout different reviews and I had to give this a listen. Sons Of Tonatiuh aren't your typical doom metal band. Sure, their main focus may be that but they incorporate a lot of heavy sludge riffs and very crust-like vocals. The overall feeling for this album is a heavy one played in a dark downtempo that has your occasionally solo or two. I wouldn't necessarily call this band crust because they don't display much of the attributes besides the vocals but if you know anything about sludge it takes a lot of hints from crust. What's surprising about SOT is that one track maybe be very slow throughout the song and eventually the gutiarist just rips into a heavy as fuck riff that just melts your face away  Be prepared when listening to this album because your mind will be blown.

I fell in love with Beyond Decay back in the summer when I was out on my hopeless journey to find a job. I had really gotten into the whole crack rock steady thing and decided to pick up some Beyond Decay. When I first listened to them they kind of skimmed over my mind but the second time around the track Sick Of It All caught my ears and I listened to it non stop the new few days. What I love about Beyond Decay is the fact that they have incorporate a lot of reggae and dub into their usual skacore, unlike most CRS bands. The album's main focus is targeting the Bush administration and the downfall of the government. Another thing I love about this album is that it displays a lot of rapping which in some cases makes this album a lot more desirable. If you're looking for something similar to B-squad or Night Gaunts this would be your safest bet.

Righteous Pigs - Live And Learn & Stress Related (1999)

I can't really remember how to I was introduced to Righteous Pigs but when I first had them I HAD to have them. As you have read above, the guitarist Mitch Harris left Righteous Pigs to join Napalm Death and left some of his notoriety behind in this band. The guitar playing is fast, heavy, and is backed by perfectly timed blast beats. The devastating vocals are what really speak to me. I mean sure, the awesome as fuck thrashy crossover guitar playing is bad ass but those growls are really something out. Not to mention the lyrics are quite clear and touch topics such as drugs,dying, stress, extinction, and just anything and everything that goes against the normals of society hitting topics such as Charles Manson. This album (or should I say compilation) is just really really heavy and shouldn't be listened to by the weak hearted. Great growling grindcore vocals that go along with dark lyrics with death metal-esque instrumentals. What more could anyone ask for?

Burn Down Rome - Devotion (2008)

I definitely wouldn't call them hardcore but I sure as hell would call them experimental. It's hard to put a finger on what is and what isn't post-hardcore but there are some parts to this band that definitely sound like it. Hell, I had to even ask around a few people as to what I should label this band. But anyways, Burn Down Rome combine many array of influences such as post-rock, hardcore, screamo, post-hardcore and metalcore. On their first EP, they even threw in a few breakdowns that were about 20 seconds and pretty bad ass sounding.  Devotion has a really emotional draw to it as soon as the first sets in and begins to reel your heart in like a fish on a line. The feel to this album overall is a powerful one. It's hard but yet hits a soft spot at the same time. A must have album for screamo fans.

November Coming Fire - Dungeness (2006)

Take the raw energy of Ceremony, throw in some progressive metal sounding metalcore riffs like Converge, and give it a sludge undertone by throwing in some Hang The Bastard and this is essentially November Coming Fire. As lame as the name sounds, the band definitely goes above and beyond in terms of making a great addition to the hardcore/metalcore scene. Just as any metalcore band in their line of work, November Coming Fire uses very little emphasis on breakdowns and more on having real progressive riffs followed by sludge breakdowns and having a very chaotic hardcore/mathcore feel to it. I'm not a fan of anything mathy at all so if this is getting praise from me you know it's gotta be good. Seeing the bands they tour with and the recognition they're getting, you know they're the real deal. If you're looking for some sick progressive metalcore this satisfy your needs.

Nux Vomica are without a doubt my FAVORITE neocrust band. The thing I wouldn't really call them neocrust. They have a lot of sludgey overtone but yet they don't at the same time. If you're familiar with the band Wake Up On Fire, the remaining members of that band went on to form Nux Vomica so you know there is some serious shit going down. This album is by far their must melodic than all their other ones. They have a few more albums that are a lot more noticed but this one is straight to their melodic neocrust roots. There's just something about Nux Vomica that makes them my favorite. Is it the fact that they're my first melodic crust experience or the fact that they're just fucking awesome? In any case, do yourself a favor and pick this up today. Oh and this youtube video isn't an exact representation of their album seeing as how I couldn't find from Asleep In The Ashes but this will suffice. Enjoy!

Dystopia - Human = Garbage (1994)

I threw up a later album from Dystopia on my blog called The Aftermath... and I'm pleased to throw up their other critically acclaimed album Human = Garbage. I kind of underminded this album mainly because The Aftermath... had a few of my favorite Dystopia tracks on it but after listening to this album a few times this night I can really sense in the hatred that this band displays. In their track Hands That Molds, a very misantropic feel sets over as the lyrics kick in...

...and so on. If you're really curious for how the song ends you'll have to pick this album for yourself. If you love anything crust and sludge, you need to get this fucking album. It's mind blowing and without a doubt holds the same bar to their later works.

Siafu - Good Vibes (2007)

Hailing from Gaithersburg, Maryland, Siafu combine a very catchy ska punk sound with some awesome as fuck jazz sections which give it a real jazz feel to their music. Some songs are just straight up instrumental, which I LOVE. Just imagine One Cool Guy with more brass when listening to Siafu. This album will have your head bobbing and your toe tapping because of how catchy it is! It just makes me want to get up and dance. This is a prime of example of what good ska punk actually is. Just an all out blend of reggae, dub, jazz, and soul, Fat Freddy's Drop brings a once in a life time listening experience to your home. If there was an accurate description for the word "chill", this would be it. Just all out jamming and instrumental at times, it really sets the mood for something very calm and soothing. The brass sections give light to the sounds making it very up beat at times meanwhile the saxaphone instrumentals almost make you feel like you're listening to Coltrane. I don't know whether to bob my head, clap, or snap my fingers. Either way, this album is great and just chilllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll.

Carcomedhi - Etilo-Eficacia (2010)

So I couldn't find a description ANYWHERE for this band but this will have to suffice. Carcomedhi are a Spanish neocrust/screamo band fronted by a female vocalist. Their raw energy and melodic riffs really pack a power punch to their crusty style. I'm not a big fan of mathy sounding music but I think Carcomedhi do an excellent just combining it with a crusty undertone followed by screamo vocals. There aren't many neocrust bands with female vocalists so be sure to add this to your collection. Enjoy!

As long as I can remember being a crust fan I have always enjoyed Contagium. Their combination of crust as fuck growled lyrics and metallic riffs really make for an awesome combination. The word "stenchcore" is best associated with them. The feeling Contagium delivers is a very apocalyptic one with very nihilistic lyrics that make for an overall chilling feel when listening to this album. If you're looking for some all out dirty, crusty crust then this is the band to listen to. Check this one out if you're a fan of stuff like Instinct of Survival, Nuclear Death Terror, Misantropicm and Morne.

Jerkoff Jackoff Frigface - Life Is A Cowboy Hat

So I couldn't find a description on these guys but here goes nothing! Jerkoff Jackoff Frigface are an acoustic folk punk/alt-country who sing about the Southern life touching subjects as their shotgun, their boots, living in Texas, and getting your heart broken with a straight up DIY vibe to it. What I love about this band is the that they're very comedic and have learned to laugh at each themselves. The overall mood this band sets is a very happy one and will get you to appreciate the Southern culture a lot more. If you're feeling down and need something to cheer you up this will be the album to get!

Agathocles - Mincer (2006)

For one thing, if you listen to grindcore and you don't know who Agathocles is, you don't know SHIT about grindcore. Seriously though, Agathocles are the kings of the mincecore scene, way of playing newer grindcore in an old school style taking influences from bands such as Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, and Repulsion. This album has 22 tracks of shredding. Agathocles really take grindcore to a next level with their wicked riffs, fast as fuck drums, and just overall devastating presence. Another great anarcho-punk crust band hailing from the Poland. The vocalist's voice really digs into your membrane by having such an unforgettable voice and by shouting all the vocals. The overall style is relatively fast and in some cases melodic. Similar to bands like DELICJE, Prawo Do Jazdy, and Silna Wola.  I'm going to continue digging deeper into the Polish scene looking for more anarcho-punk bands so stay tuned for more!

The Jolly Boys - Great Expectation (2010)

The Jolly Boys have been in the music industry for over 50 years and they're still cranking out music like there's no tomorrow! They play a unique Jamacian style of music called mento. Here is a summary of what mento is.


"Mento is a style of Jamaican folk music that predates and has greatly influenced ska and reggae music. Mento typically features acoustic instruments, such as acoustic guitar, banjo, hand drums, and the rhumba box — a large mbira in the shape of a box that can be sat on while played. The rhumba box carries the bass part of the music.

Mento is often confused with calypso, a musical form from Trinidad and Tobago. Although the two share many similarities, they are separate and distinct musical forms. In part, the differences stem from the differing colonial histories of the two West Indian Islands, as Jamaican music lacks the Spanish influences found in other Caribbean musical styles." - taken from here.


The album Great Expectation draws a lot of focus from calypso, mento, and reggae influences and incorporates such instruments as a rhumba box, banjos, and hand drums. What I love about this album the most is the fact that it's a cover album; meaning to say every song as has been somewhat popular and done by bigger acts. It includes such songs as Ring of Fire (Johnny Cash), Riders On The Storm (The Doors), Blue Monday (New Order) and You Can't Always Get What You Want (Rolling Stones). The Jamacian sound really adds to and gives new meaning to these songs and will have you replaying this album for hours. Get yourself cultured today!

Drown In Blood are one of those bands that you just have to consider whether or not they're crusties or guys who just love to play old school death metal. Either way, this shit is fucking awesome. Their gritty, dirty riffs are beautiful mastered only to be backed up by some insane vocals and that give it a real crust feel. This album will have you trembling in your boots for hours as you intake the raw power that is Drown In Blood. The blast beats are inserted correctly and make for an overall punishing sound. Fans of both metallic sounding crust and death metal should consider this album because I'll knock you off your feet.

All hail the second coming of fucking BLACK SABBATH!!!!!!!! ... but Japanese style! Goddamn who can't get enough of Church Of Misery?!?!?! One of the few doom metal/stoner metal bands out there that pack a punch and really get down to how the style of music should sound. Playing in the vein of Black Sabbath are hard shoes to fit in but this band executes it perfectly. Seriously, you call yourself a Sabbath fan and you never listened to Church Of Misery? You don't know SHIT about doom metal and it's predecessors. Their long, drawn-out, bluesy riffs and overall psychedelic feel to their music really seperates CoM from all other doom/stoner bands. Play this one for your dad and he'll start reminiscing for old days all the times he tripped on acid. I know every band out there tries to imitate the early proto-doom bands but Church Of Misery are the best fucking band out there to this date to do it. I don't care about your Electric Wizard or Acid King or Boris. THIS IS THE ALBUM TO GET!

Back for popular demand, here is................................ LEPER! No, no really requested this or whatever but their other album I uploaded, Embarrassed To Be Human, has gotten a lot of hits so I decided to throw their more acclaimed album up here. For those of you who don't know, Leper has a very unique sound to them. They play a very blackened form of crust who incorporate ska hooks. As lame as this sounds it's really unique and they do hell of a good job at it too. Their lyrics tend to focus on anarchist views targeting such things as consumerism, capitalism, racism, and animal liberation. I can't remember it off the top of my head but one of their song even dictates being an animal going through the slaughter process. Listening to that track makes me feel good that I don't participate in the supporting in the cold meat industry. In my personal opinion, I enjoyed Embarrassed To Be Human a lot more than End Progress just because there was a shit ton of more material on that album but a lot of people will agree this is the better album. Leper fans should have this album by now and if you don't well here it is! Enjoy. :3

For those of you who are going to dismiss this album mainly because it's ska or crack rock steady related PLEASE DON'T! I've put off uploading this album to this blog for a long time now but I've been listening to it a lot and it's completely changed my life so I feel a need to put it up. No Cash's Run Your Pocket is their first and last full length album but it's all you need from them. They deliver clean as fuck three chord riffs, sample the Goonies, and can relate to personal matters. I remember the first time listening to Knowledge Is Power a few years. I was failing in school and I didn't know what to do. It felt like everything was falling beneath my feet and I couldn't do anything about it. Something needed to change and this song changed me. "Discipline, conformity, walk in single file down a dead end street, if this isn't taking me where I need to be, FUCK EDUCATION, at least my mind is free" and thus I had freed myself from the hell I was in. Another song that spoke to me was Homelife Is A Drag because at the time I was in a very bad situation at home and there wasn't really a way for me to leave but this song pulled me through. As lame as this sounds I'm so thankful for No Cash because they have made me do a complete 360 in life and really opened up my eyes. I'm forever indebted to them and this will always be my favorite album of all time and one of the most influential bands on my music taste to date.

I'm fairly new to the whole death metal scene so excuse me in advance if I say anything that may sound ignorant. Revolting are a new school death metal band playing that 80's old school style. Generally speaking about death metal, I tend to find most bands very boring and overdone in a sense of trying to copy off another band but Revolting are a lot more than that. They take a lot of inspiration from older death metal bands and give it a real thrashy, listenable sound to it. Revolting perfectly times their blast beasts correctly, great growls, gory lyrics, provide a great instrumental track half way through the album, and overall make for quite the listening experience. If you're looking for something original when it comes to death metal this is the way to go. Pick this up today!

Move over Misfits and Cramps, we've got new horror punks in town and unlike you idiots, these guys know how to fucking SHRED! Dr AIDS bring a very humorous sound to the crust scene with their dark, hatred-filled lyrics about very basic things such as ice cream, trannys, and pedophiles entitled "NECROQUEGCUNTCORE".  Their way of playing is very heavy in a sense of being metallic as fuck but also have a dominant d-beat section. They're too heavy to be called punk and too light to be called metal so they're just in the between looking to show both scenes what's up. What I love most about Dr AIDS is the that you can just tell that they have fun doing what they do and aren't afraid to speak their mind. Nothing beats a bunch of crazy drunk guys sitting around writing some hilarious tunes. Take some lessons from Dr AIDS and stay away from the Ice Cream man!

Without a doubt one of my favorite powerviolence bands, Betercore bring a very innovative way to play powerviolence with a cutting edge crust as fuck style. The chord progressions are random enough to be deemed powerviolence (not to mention their ways of poking fun of the media and TV shows, subcultures, and leftist ideas) and the vocals are sometimes growled, similar to crust and just thrashy as hell. I also love the very lo-fi sounding of their releases. There's just something about Betercore that is different from most powerviolence bands. Maybe it's because they're from Amsterdam? Who knows. Skarp - Requiem (2005)

Straight from Seattle, this band really knows how to lay it down with some fucking awesome riffs and the tracks aren't all 50 seconds of growls and pig squeals like you're typical grindcore. One of the greatest crustgrind albums put out to date, Skarp bring a very dark and damp way of playing to both crust and grindcore scenes. The vocalist of Skarp has a very profound sound to her that is so hard to describe I can't go into details. The overall feel of this band is just very misantrophic and nihilistic as fuck. Seriously, if you don't have this album you don't know SHIT about crust or grind. Without a doubt, one of the greatest crustgrind albums you will ever listen to. Even if you're not a fan of either or I highly recommend this. I've been a fan of Skarp for a long time now and I promise they won't disappoint or your money back. B)

Guillotine Terror - Kronos (2007)

Guillotine Terror has for a long time been one of my favorite stenchcore bands and once you listen to this album you'll see why. Not only do they have a shit ton of material (like 7 well produced albums?) but also really know how to bring the skull-crushing sound to the crust world. Guillotine Terror reminds me of a Japanese version of Hellshock but bring that Burning Spirits hardcore punk from their culture and apply it to their crusty ethics and deliver raw, edgy as fuck music. If you're looking for something crusty, heavy, foreign and just overall loud and in your face, then this album is strictly for you. This is for fans of Confuse, Gauze, Disclone, SDS, etc.
